A little over a month ago, June turned one and we decided to throw her an over-the-top Mexican bash for her very first fiesta!! This day was so much fun for us– not only did we get to celebrate my June Bug, but we hosted our first big event at The Vault! For décor, we knew we wanted to do something cheery and bright, so we centered the celebration around Mexican pom poms and cacti because that spells fun and June LOVES Mexican food. Desert 2 District created a cacti backdrop with her own handmade stamps. It. was. rad. For the lounge furniture, we selected midcentury modern bright pieces for June to play on along with her own mini rattan chair. Seeing her little smile fills my heart, and we are so grateful to all the amazing friendors who helped to make this party such a blast for her. We’re so excited to finally get to share these fun photos with you, and be sure to check out the whole story on 100 Layer Cake-let!
For cacti that were baby-friendly, we worked with Hook & Yarn Designs to make crocheted cacti as favors for our guests. Since we love using our bar carts for more than just serving drinks, it only made sense for us to top off our Rhys Bar Cart with gifts for June, a mini cacti army, and lots of gorgeous flowers. Did I mention I got to use our brand spanking new floral company, Lady Bird Florals, to collaborate with the mega-talented Rocking Bird Flower Co. on the florals for this shindig? I had SO much fun creating super bright and festive arrangements for June’s big day!
As you can see, we put the pom poms EVERYWHERE to bring in the fiesta. We even broke out our brand new vintage disco ball, Donna. (And, yes, she is named after disco queen, Donna Summer!)
For sweets, BellyWell Sweets made adorable fiesta cookies—cacti, llamas, piñatas and brightly colored 1s! If you can believe it, these tasted even better than they look. So much fun!!
We knew from the start that we wanted to use our Lamont Bar and Decatur Wash Bin to display drinks– we provided festive tequila cocktails for the adults, and Mexican sodas in super bright colors for the kiddos. Delish!
When we started planning, we knew a neon sign was a must-have! This custom June Bug sign by Brite Lite Tribe was the perfect piece to dress up our food display and it looked sooo good displayed above our Benning Midcentury Credenza. The best part? We hung up the sign in June’s bedroom post-party, and we know it will be a super special keepsake for her in the future!
For food, Eat & Smile Catering made a stylish Mexican feast in small bites fit for June and her tribe. Watermelon salad, chicken mini tacos, pulled pork tostadas, and heirloom tomatoes. Yum!
This epic hanging arrangement was the real showstopper of the day! I had sooo much fun bringing my floral vision to life alongside Meredith, and I foraged a lot of local greenery in addition to the palms, protea, and other bright blooms that went into creating this fun and lush arrangement. Also, how cool do our Palmer Garden Chairs and Charm City Zinc Table look here? The zinc table top was the perfect backdrop for our Alder Teak Dinner Plates, Onyx Salad Plates, Bloomington Bread + Butter Plates, and colorful vintage goblets!
Time to eat!
Fluffy Thoughts Cake made the most festive, bright cake and June just dug right in! We displayed the cake alongside some more tropical greens and cheery flowers on one of our vintage milk glass cake platters!
That face!!! 😍😍😍 More than anything, we wanted June to really enjoy her first fiesta. We had so much fun celebrating this sweet girl and, clearly, she enjoyed being the center of attention!
After cake, we relaxed on some of the fun lounge pieces we set up! We love the combination of our midcentury Silvestre Black Velvet Chairs, Arwen Rattan Side Table, and Aslan Turkish Kilim Rug in the above pic. And of course, we posed for a few photos on our rad Harlow Daybed (pictured below)!
